Thread of the Day: What Would You Pay for a Budget Corvette?
The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray is still months away from reaching showrooms, but that hasn’t stopped the rumor mill from suggesting possible variants we can expect in the future. First we heard about the possibility of the next-gen ZR1 topping 700 hp, and now there’s speculation on the opposite end of the spectrum — Chevrolet may be preparing a “low-cost” model called the Corvette Coupe to slot below the Corvette Stingray. The Corvette Coupe is the topic of today’s Thread of the Day.
The obvious difference between the upcoming Corvette Stingray and the rumored Corvette Coupe budget model would be what’s under the hood. As previously reported, the Stingray will be powered by an new, LT1 6.2-liter V-8 expected to produce around 450 hp. The Corvette Coupe would get a modified version of the 5.3-liter V-8 slated for GM’s new pickup trucks. Visual tweaks (and the absence of the Stingray badge) would differentiate the low-cost ‘Vette from the Stingray.
Although we don’t yet have any official details on the Corvette Coupe, we want to know how much you’d pay for this cheaper variant. The current C6 Corvette carries a base price of $50,595 with a manual transmission and we expect the C7 Corvette Coupe to be priced in that same range. How much would you pay for a Corvette Coupe?
