SRT Viper vs. ZR1, Detroit Show Roundtable Debate on Wide Open Throttle
In the latest Wide Open Throttle video, Jessi Lang and other Motor Trend hosts gather for a roundtable discussion about the controversial SRT Viper/Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 comparison. Additionally, Angus MacKenzie, Jonny Lieberman, Ed Loh, and Scott Evan pick a few winners and losers from the Detroit auto show before ending the episode by picking a few cars that need to lose weight.
The hosts start with the Viper and ZR1 contest, which took place at the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca with racecar driver Randy Pobst behind the wheel. Lieberman and Loh said they weren’t surprised by the results and MacKenzie points to a number of reasons why the Chevy won, namely its better tires and the fact that the ZR1 represents years of refining and tweaking by engineers; he expects the just-released Viper to improve in the future.
Next, the discussion moves on to the Detroit auto show and all the hosts agree that the new 2014 Corvette Stingray was the superstar. The Ford Atlas concept truck, however, was a surprise, as was the Lexus IS (but not in a good way to some hosts). Loh defends the Lexus’ effort to execute a daring exterior design. Finally, the hosts wrap up the episode by picking a few cars that need to lose weight. Watch the full discussion below.
