2013 Nissan Altima Front Quarter

In the month of May, there was no silver bullet to finding sales success. Not one segment dominated, as automakers saw their sales soar–many to record heights–amid what was a very giving month.

Cadillac saw its highest amount of growth since the 1970s, with the ATS, SRX, and new XTS all contributing to the cause. Subaru built upon its best month ever in the U.S. with its all-new 2014 Forester, which recently won our compact crossover comparison. Even the sagging Lincoln saw signs of life as its new MKZ midsize luxury sedan finally landed at dealerships. Only smaller niche automakers saw declines, and most of them are attached to larger corporations, making their sales declines negligible.

The industry was up about 9 percent as a whole, and sales suggest that the summer months will continue growing even stronger as new models trickle into showrooms.
