Holden VF SS V Concept Teases 2014 Chevrolet SS
Holden, General Motors’ Australian brand, has given us an early glimpse at the forthcoming Chevrolet SS performance sedan. Holden says the VF SS V concept car, based on the standard VF Commodore, closely previews the 2014 Chevrolet SS that will debut this weekend.
The 2014 Chevrolet SS will be rear-wheel-drive, with eight-cylinder power and a chassis stolen from Holden’s down-under parts bin. Chevrolet already showed off its NASCAR racer that features many hints as to the production car’s styling, but this Commodore-based Holden VF SS V concept is likely an even closer look at America’s newest performance sedan.

The Holden VF SS V shows off the traditional, square-edged sedan styling we expected from the Chevrolet SS. Large projector headlights booked a small black grille, with a larger lower grille opening positioned between foglights and LED running lights. Imitation vents sit on the front fenders, and the doors are flat aside from a small crease along the bottom edge. The decklid tapers and is topped by a small spoiler. Below the bumper, a black diffuser houses a quartet of exhaust tips. The cabin benefits from carbon fiber-look trim, chrome, suede, and perforated leather.
Key specifications from the show car include 20-inch wheels, Brembo brakes, a touchscreen interface that resembles the Chevrolet MyLink system, LED running lights, an electric parking brake, and a suite of active safety technology that includes lane departure warning, blind-spot warning, a head-up display, forward collision alert, as well as park-assist. Much of that equipment is likely to make its way, at least as an option, to the 2014 Chevrolet SS.
As for power, it’s unclear whether the Chevrolet SS will adopt the new LT1 6.2-liter V-8 from the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette, or use the older 6.2-liter LS3 V-8 from vehicles like the Camaro SS. Either way,we expect plenty of drag strip-running and tire-burning power.
The 2014 Chevrolet SS will be fully revealed on Saturday, February 16.
