2013 Chevrolet Malibu LTZ

General Motors recalled select 2013 Chevrolet Malibu models manufactured December 6, 2011, through January 15, 2013. The reason for the recall comes from one or more rear suspension bolts that may not have been thoroughly tightened to the specific torque of the model, which can lead to changes in handling. This sudden change can increase the likelihood of an accident.

The driver side front air bag has caused the recall of select 2012 Chevrolet Camaro, Cruze, Sonic, and Buick Verano models. These airbags have a shorting bar that has the possibility of intermittently contacting the air bag terminals. If this were to happen, the driver’s frontal air bag would not deploy if the vehicle were to get in an accident, increasing the chance of injury to the driver.

GM has already begun to notify owners, and owner notifications will be completed shortly. Dealers will inspect all bolts and retighten them as necessary for the Malibu, free of charge. Inspections and replacements for the steering wheel airbag coil in the Camaro, Cruze, Sonic, and Verano will begin on February 13, 2013, also free of charge.

For more information, Chevrolet Malibu owners may contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at (888) 327-4236, or go to www.safercar.gov, with the General Motors recall number 13008. Chevrolet Camaro, Cruze, Sonic, and Buick Verano owners can contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline using the information above with GM recall number 12261, which is an expansion of the 12V-522 recall.
