2014 Chevrolet Cruze RS

General Motors is introducing a new maintenance plan on new 2014 Chevrolet, Buick, and GMC vehicles, which will include scheduled services for two years or 24,000 miles. Dealers will complete oil and filter changes, tire rotations, and a 27-point vehicle inspection based on what the owner’s manual maintenance schedule and oil life monitoring system calls for.

The new program will cover up to four service visits in the 24-month period, and is even transferable to subsequent owners. For those who have already purchased a 2014 model will receive the new maintenance plan. “This new plan will kick off our customers’ ownership experience on the right foot and keep our strong sales momentum going,” said Dan Akerson, GM Chairman and CEO, in a recent interview.

Looking more in-depth, some alternative-fuel vehicles won’t have an included oil change, just as some performance models won’t have an included tire rotation when the service isn’t recommended. Right now, Cadillac models with a 2011 model year or newer are already covered by the Cadillac Premium Care Maintenance Program. This covers scheduled maintenance services for four years or 50,000 miles.

Unlike GM, Lincoln will be cutting back its complimentary maintenance program from 4 years/50,000 miles to 2 years/24,000 miles. Lincoln isn’t the only one to cut back the program; Jaguar and Volvo have also cut their maintenance programs back. Lincoln’s reasoning behind the cut back was that it was more competitive with the other luxury brands, and it complements the short-term 24-month leases.
