First Look: 2014 Chevrolet Silverado Official Specs Released, New High Country Trim Level, 5.3-liter V-8 EcoTec Engine Rated at 23 mpg Highway
The 2014 Chevrolet Silverado’s full specifications and information were released this evening, and as we heard before, it will feature three all-new engines. We now know though that one mill, the 5.3-liter V-8, is rated at 355 horsepower, and is capable of touching 23 mpg on the highway. It’s expected that this engine will serve the majority of Silverado owners. Both the 4.3-liter V-6 and 6.2-liter V-8 engines return for the latest Silverado too. A new High Country trim is also bowing for the first time, and Chevy says it will square off against the likes of Ford’s King Ranch, Ram’s Laramie Longhorn, and the 2014 Toyota Tundra 1794. The usual trim levels (WT, LS, LT, LTZ, and Z71) all come back for the 2014 model year as well.
As mentioned above, the third-generation Chevrolet Silverado will feature a 4.3-liter V-6, a 5.3-liter V-8, and a 6.2-liter V-8 engine. Chevy will be quick to tell you that the all-new Silverado features direct fuel injection, cylinder deactivation, and continuously variable valve timing; tech not seen in the competition’s offerings. Each engine is also capable of running off four cylinders to help boost fuel efficiency when much power isn’t needed. As for strength numbers, Chevy says that EPA numbers are expected to be the best in its class, but the official word isn’t expected until early 2014. The Golden Bow Tie did say that these all-new engines do offer up more power, torque, and fuel efficiency than the ones it’s replacing though.
Inside is also all-new for the 2014 model year, and features Chevrolet’s MyLink Infotainment system, an upright instrument panel which sports six gauges, multiple USB inputs, a 12-volt and 110-volt input, and storage compartments almost everywhere you look. The seats are wrapped in a high-wear cloth which is durable and easy to clean. Up front, the seat cushions consist of dual-density foam in an attempt to improve comfort and boost its lifetime. Form and function are two things designers focused on so all the controls are functional as they sit, and strategically placed so those wearing gloves can interact with ease. If you opt for the crew cab configuration, after driving the previous version, you’ll notice that the rear doors are larger which makes it easier to climb in and out. The rear doors on the extended cabs are now hinged at the front instead to help with ingress and egress.
The new trim level, High Country, is also making its debut with the third-generation Chevrolet Silverado and is the automaker’s answer to the competition’s most luxurious trim line. The High Country trim will sit above the LTZ and Z71 and features a chrome grille, halogen projector headlights, and a front and rear bumper that matches the truck’s exterior color. The High Country will roll along on 20-inch chrome wheels and are wrapped in P275/55R20 all-season tires. Chrome body side moldings, door handles, and side view mirrors finish off the flashy styling cues.
A saddle brown interior, which is exclusive to the High Country, features cooled and heated seats swaddled in perforated leather, and the High Country logo is also stitched onto the front headrests. Chevy’s MyLink Infotainment system is standard as is an eight-inch touchscreen, a Bose audio system, and front and rear park assist. Some available options on the High Country include the 6.2-liter V-8, a chrome rear bumper with CornerStep, and an integrated trailer brake. You can also opt for a sunroof, navigation, a rear seat entertainment system, or the High Country Premium Package. This includes a heated steering wheel, driver alert package, and adjustable pedals.
The 2014 Chevrolet Silverado will go on sale later this year and will start at $24,585, which is the same as the 2013 model. The extended cab will set you back $28,610 while the crew cab will cost you $32,710. All prices include the $995 destination freight charge.
