Feature Flick: Daytona Ready – 2014 Chevrolet SS Stars in Ads Before Race Weekend
We knew the 2014 Chevrolet SS race car was going to debut at the 2013 Daytona 500, and the green flag for the race drops this weekend. Chevrolet has already unveiled much of what we want to know about the SS racer and production-ready sedan, and now the automaker has produced two new videos just in time for the big race.
The first clip is CGI animated and starts off with the SS race car lapping Daytona while simultaneously shedding its camouflage to reveal its official racing livery (and sponsors). After that, the racing set-up peels away to show off the road-spec sedan, which shows off a few of its sporty features such as Brembo brakes and quad-tipped exhaust. As previously reported, the 2014 SS sedan will arrive in showrooms later this year with an LS3 6.2-liter V-8 tuned to send around 415 hp and 415 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels via a six-speed automatic.
The second video showcases Chevrolet’s history at the Daytona race, which spans all the way back to 1936. The video also highlights a few key winning race car drivers including Junior Johnson, Sterling Marlin, and Dale Earnhardt, who earn his first Daytona 500 win in 1998. The short clip even provides a little background about the Daytona 500 trophy and its ties to a famous General Motors car designer.
