Chevrolet Spark and Sonic to Get iPhone’s Siri Personal Assistant – 2012 L.A.
Siri, the personal assistant for iPhone, is coming to the Chevrolet Spark and Sonic models equipped with the Chevrolet MyLink infotainment system early next year, the automaker announced at an event today just ahead of the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show.
After pairing an iPhone to the MyLink system via Bluetooth, drivers can ask Siri basic questions or perform simple tasks without taking their eyes off the road or having their iPhone screen illuminate. Siri operates in an Eyes Free mode to minimize driving distractions.
During a demonstration, when Siri was asked a complex question that would require displaying an image or list of websites, Siri responded by saying, “To ensure your safety your vehicle won’t permit me to help you with that right now.”
Still, the list of tasks and questions Siri can address is long, and includes showing stock quotes, sports scores, weather information, and the dates of national holidays as well as the ability to play music from the iTunes library, switching music sources, making voice-activated hands-free calls, and sending or reading text messages. Siri can also access the iPhone calendar and add or read appointments.
Siri is compatible with Spark 1LT and 2LT models and Sonic LTZ and RS models equipped with MyLink.
Chevrolet also showed the 2014 Spark EV at the event; check out images of the Spark EV and Spark EV cutaway in the gallery below and be sure to check out our driving impressions from our 2014 Chevrolet Spark EV Quick Drive here.
