April 2013 Sales: American Automakers on the Warpath; Only 6 Automakers Suffer Sales Declines
The month of April brings with it high sales numbers, broken records, and only six automakers are in the red. Chrysler group has announced its best April sales since 2007, with Dodge and Ram sales increases helping with the overall 11 percent increase. Ram boasted the highest sales increase of any manufacturer, up 49 percent from April 2012.
Subaru announced that it has had its best sales month in the company’s history, increasing its sales just over 25 percent compared to last year. Sales of the new 2014 Forester increased by 65 percent, helping the automaker increase its sales. Ford was also up 18 percent thanks to the strong sales numbers of both the Fusion and Escape, however, F-Series sales were up 24 percent, giving the truck lineup its best monthly sales results since 2006.
General Motors also had a notable month of sales, with all brands posing higher total and retail sales, with crossovers up 14 percent, with trucks and SUVs up 17 percent. Car sales for the group were up 6 percent, with large pickups up 23 percent. Chevrolet had its best crossover sales ever, with a 14 percent increase of the Equinox, and 18 percent increase for the redesigned Traverse.
