2014 Chevrolet Sonic Adds Limited-Run Paint Colors
To help brighten up the 2014 Chevrolet Sonic sedan and hatchback, the automaker will launch special paint colors for a limited period of time. The first new color is called Deep Magenta Metallic, and it will be followed later this year by Cool Blue.
The Chevrolet Spark subcompact is already offered in bright, funky colors like Grape, Fresh Lime, and Denim, and now Chevrolet is expanding the idea to the Sonic. The company is experimenting with more exotic color choices by only making them available for a limited amount of time. Deep Magenta Metallic will only be available on a new 2014 Chevrolet Sonic between August and October. After that, Cool Blue will be available only from November through March 2014. Chevrolet says that it was inspired to try the new paint schemes by the success of bold colors on the Spark.
The Deep Magenta Metallic is said to shift colors as light plays over it, while Chevrolet describes the Cool Blue as a “dirty” grey-blue tone. The special colors are only available on LT trim levels of the 2014 Chevrolet Sonic, and come as part of a $990 package that bundles the unique paint, a sunroof, the MyLink infotainment system, and foglights. A Chevrolet representative notes that’s a discount over ordering those components individually, as adding a sunroof and MyLink costs more than $900 alone.
After the Deep Magenta Metallic and Cool Blue paints are offered for a limited amount of time, the 2014 Chevrolet Sonic will add a permanent funky paint choice: Dragon Green. It will join the options list in the first quarter of next year. After that, we’re told it’s possible Chevrolet will offer more limited-run bright colors, depending on how well customers respond to these three new hues.
The 2014 Chevrolet Sonic is mostly unchanged from previous years, and continues to be offered both as a sedan and a hatchback. A backup camera becomes standard on LTZ and RS trim levels, and an optional safety package bundles forward collision and lane departure warnings. Engine choices comprise a 138-hp, 1.8-liter inline-four and a more fuel-efficient 138-hp, 1.4-liter turbo-four. Pricing for the 2014 Chevrolet Sonic has yet to be announced.
