Here’s your “no surprise here” moment of the day. The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray has been chosen as the next vehicle to pace the field at this year’s Indianapolis 500. The race is scheduled to go down on May 26th and it will mark the 12th time that General Motors’ flagship sports car will lead the charge to the green flag.

Chevrolet will send the C7 to Indy wearing an exterior color paint known as Laguna Blue Tintcoat and will feature race graphics on both doors. The all-new 6.2-liter LT1 V-8 engine, which features direct injection, continuously variable valve timing, and cylinder deactivation, is rated at 450 horsepower and shouldn’t have any trouble keeping up a brisk pace around the two and half mile track. A seven-speed manual transmission is responsible for doling out the power. The only difference the pace car has from the street legal C7 are a set of strobe lights which are positioned in the front grille. Other than that, both the pace car and street version feature a carbon fiber hood, composite body pieces (doors, fenders, underbody panels),  and high-intensity discharge headlights.

Inside you’ll find a healthy dose of carbon fiber and aluminum trim, leather wrapped seats, steering wheel, and shifter, dual 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Indy Pace Car passengers side front three quarters 2 300x187 imageeight-inch infotainment screens, and two new seat choices.  Other interior features include a five-position Drive Mode Selector that best matches the driver’s current environment and, if you opt for the convertible variant, a fully electronic top that’s controlled with the key fob. That feature is expected out a few months down the road.

The 2013 Indianapolis 500 pace car also features the Z51 Performance Package, which is an available feature on the street legal version as well. This includes an electronic limited-slip differential, dry-sump oiling system and an integral brake. Other features of the Z51 Performance Package include differential and transmission cooling, and an aero package that keeps the C7 planted to the ground when traveling at high speeds.

GM says to expect the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray coupe on dealership lots across the country starting this fall. The convertible model is expected to show up a few months after that.
