2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray

The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray is now officially the most powerful standard Corvette ever, as Chevrolet today announced the car’s LT1 6.2-liter V-8 engine delivers 455 horsepower. The Stingray gains 5 horsepower when equipped with the available performance exhaust system.

The new Stingray is also expected to exceed 26 mpg on the highway, and go from 0 to 60 in less than four seconds. “The 2014 Corvette Stingray’s LT1 engine is a triumph of advanced technology, delivering more power and torque than ever before with greater efficiency,” said Jordan Lee, Small Block chief engineer.

For the first time on any Corvette, Active Fuel Management–cylinder deactivation–has been added to help save fuel. It shuts down half of the engine’s cylinders when light-load driving. Direct injection and continuously variable valve timing have also been included on the next-generation Corvette to further improve fuel economy and performance.

The LT1 engine in the new 2014 Corvette Stingray is the fifth generation of the Small Block engine family that originally debuted in 1955. In 2012, this engine powered the C6 Corvette that beat Ferrari, BMW, and Porsche on the track, helping it earn the drivers’, team, and manufacturer championships in production-based American Le Mans Series GT class.

The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray coupe will be on sale this fall, with a convertible model following later this year. Both models share the all-new aluminum frame and enhanced chassis, and completely new exterior and interior designs.
